Dengue is a viral infection caused by dengue virus (DENV). It is mainly transmitted through the bite of infected Aedes mosquitoes, especially Aedes aegypti. These mosquitoes commonly bite during the day, not only at night.
There are four major dengue virus serotypes: DENV-1 DENV-2 DENV-3 DENV-4
Getting infected with one serotype generally gives long-term protection against that same serotype, but not complete protection against the others. A later infection with a different serotype can carry a higher risk of severe dengue
